Professional Affiliations: I am not a member of any professional association but I am possibly the only qualified Orthotic Prosthetic Technologist operating in a Professional Clinical and Technical situation in Australia. Presently, to my knowledge, there is no professional association to which an Orthotic Prosthetic Technologists can be a member.

Brief Bio:

I am specialised in the Orthotics profession. I have been involved and worked in all forms of Orthotic care and treatment for over 30+ years. For 24 years 10 months I worked within a public hospital at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (TQEH) as a Senior Orthotic Technician. I worked in both Clinical and Technical roles within The Queen Elizabeth Hospital's Orthotic Services performing Orthotic duties always to a constant high standard, gaining considerable knowledge, experience and expertise over this long period of time of performing Orthotic duties.
I completed studies over an 8 year period in a Diploma in Health Prosthetic & Orthotic Technology RMIT University, in Victoria in 2000, and a Certificate of Competency & Technology in Prosthetic and Orthotic Technology, in South Australia in 1993. For an example of the high level of studies undertaken, I completed two separate Anatomy and Physiology courses to achieve competency for both of these different qualifications, other subjects completed in the course were Biomechanics. Once I completed my studies in a Diploma in Health Prosthetic & Orthotic Technology, I was not given permission to use the title of Orthotic Prosthetic Technologist at TQEH.
An Orthotic Prosthetic Technologist gives an evaluation of the patient's Orthotic treatment, and fabricates a custom made Orthoses for fitting on the patient's extremity. The Orthotic Prosthetic Technologist uses a custom made orthoses on a patient to stabilise or unload their joints, support the patients motion stresses on tissue, the orthoses is a substitute for the patients muscle weakness or paralysis.

Foot Mechanic Orthotics Custom Made Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO) and Wrist Orthosis (WO) services are provided for patients.
