Brief Bio:
Kathryn is a physiotherapist and adult educator. She has diverse experience in the health and aged care industries with a particular interest in risk management and occupational health and safety. As a VET facilitator Kathryn completed her Masters in Assessment and Evaluation in 2005, developing a standards referenced assessment protocol for the Australian Association of Manutention Practitioners.
Following her experience of caring for a family member with Alzheimer’s disease, Kathryn volunteered at Alzheimer's Australia, Victoria. This led to a sessional educator position and a return study at the University of Melbourne. In 2010 Kathryn completed her PhD - a study of the psychosocial aspects of caring in the presence of dementia with Lewy bodies. She has translated that research into a Lewy body disease resource for Dementia Australia and has presented at numerous conferences.
Kathryn contracted polio when she was 3 years old. She has successfully managed some residue issue but is now in her 70s is experiencing increasing late effects. With her personal and professional experience and as an educator with a passion for raising the profile of poorly understood conditions, she would happy to contribute to the work of Polio Australia.
